A Scary Moment With A Senior Resident

Working at an Assisted Living with Senior residents has opened my eyes to how delicate and fragile we become as we age. Not having my parents or grandparent’s, this is something that I have not experienced.  Many of the residents there have some form of Alzheimer. Resident’s with full on Dementia are on a different floor but some are there for other medical reasons.

Today while I was working on the computer with Pauline, we started chatting to a new resident who had moved in just a few weeks ago.  Gary, the new resident was waiting at the elevator to go down to lunch. While he was standing there we asked how he was doing and he said he was doing fine. Pauline and I continued to focus on what we were doing on the computer and all of a sudden we heard the loudest bang. We both stood up and noticed Gary just suddenly passed out and hit the floor HARD.  Thank God the nurses were right behind us and rushed over to him and called 911.

It was one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen. One minute we were talking to him and a second or two later he just dropped.  Pauline was a bit shaken up. Gary has been sitting at their table during dinner. The resident’s become family with each other and become pretty protective of one another. I hope everything is ok with Gary. Hopefully, when I go in tomorrow someone will have some good news.

We are all thinking of you Gary!
