Will We EVER Be Potty Trained?

potty training in progressSo it’s been a few months since my last potty training post. Buggy has done super awesome with going pee on the potty and as most kids do, she picked it up right away but we are still having issues with going poo. The kid absolutely refuses to poo in the potty. We’ve done stickers, snacks, the poo happy dance on the few times she has gone but no dice on consistency with going poo in the potty and sometimes there is nothing at all you can use to bribe this kid with-NOTHING!

I know it takes longer to master this part but she is almost 3.5 and I’m just wondering how.much.longer. The poor kid has had issues with her little who-ha being sore because she’s tried to wipe herself, she’s had a UTI and we are now just starting to feel better on that. She’s been wearing her big girl underwear for months and has no problem going poo in them and she will tell me when she does it and we go right to the big potty so I guess that’s a step in the right direction.

I know that it will take time and she will come around when she’s ready but sometimes it does feel like we’ll never get there so I just need to be patient, Hakuna Matata right but not always so easy when you’re washing poop out of underwear quite a few times a day.

How long did it take for your little ones to potty train?

Seniors Still Just Wanna Have Fun!

20130418_145159Who says that when you’re a Senior living in an Assisted Living home you can’t have any fun.  Last week I had so much fun at work, it was a day of laughter and dancing. The activities coordinator had a performer come in for the resident’s. He sang some great songs everyone was familiar with and tried to get a few of the residents up out of their chairs.  As I was walking by, one of the residents pulled me in and I’m so glad she did. What a blast we all had.

Here are some pics I took on my cell phone-they’re a bit blurry since they were all moving - to show you that no matter how old you are you are never to old to stop dancing and I didn’t need any excuse to get up and join them to do the twist.  Some of the resident’s couldn’t believe they were actually dancing and moving as much as they were.

Just because they are at an Assisted Living home it doesn’t mean that they have to stop living. It was great to see them have such a great time and everyone is looking forward to next month’s event.  What kind of activities do you do with the Senior’s in your life?

Nine Years And Gone Too Soon

His name was Angel and he truly was one. He was my daddy and the best daddy in the world. Papi, as we called him in Spanish was so much fun, sweet, caring, a jokester and a kid at heart and I’m so grateful that I take after my Papi and for so many amazing, happy memories.

It was nine years ago today that I lost Papi, he was so young, only 62. Papi had been in the hospital for some time but when we lost him it was unexpected. I had gone for a getaway up north for the night and was out of cell range. My sisters were trying to reach me to tell me the news but I didn’t get it until the next day. I never got to say goodbye to Papi and even now I sometimes have dreams of walking around the hospital looking for him.

I see so much of my daughter in Papi. Buggy has such a silly, goofy personality-so much like her Abuelo. I know that in the Spirit world the two have shared many laughs and my heart swells when she sees pictures of my parents and says “that’s Abuelo”.

I love you and miss you so much Papi! I know you are having a great time on the other side and watching over us. Te Amo!

Dios te bendiga mi Angel!

Boston Marathon: Remembering The Victims

The Boston Marathon. An amazing event that brings people together from all over the world. The 2013 Boston Marathon will forever be with us but for the wrong reasons. What should have been a joyous event for many has been destroyed by a senseless evil act of violence by cowards.  There were three wonderful people that lost their lives in the bombing and one of them was an 8 year old child. Many people hurt and lost limbs.  I live just north of Boston and you never think that this will happen in your backyard.

130416_Krystle_Campbell_Medford_Victim_Boston_Marathon_bombingKrystle Cambell was a 29 year old restaurant manager who was at the race with her best friend. Her father describes her as a "very caring, very loving person," adding that she "was daddy's little girl."  Krystle died instantly at the scene.

lu lingzi third marathon victimLu Lingzi, a 23-year-old student from Shenyang was a Chinese graduate student at Boston University. Lu was reportedly waiting near the marathon’s finishing line with two friends when two explosions threw the event into chaos. One of those friends was injured in the blast.

Martin marathon victimMartin Richard was 8 years old, he was with his father, mother and 6-year-old sister near the grandstand when one of the explosions occurred. His mother and sister were both critically injured in the blast. Martin's mother underwent brain surgery Monday night and his sister, 6, lost a leg in the blast.

Our hearts and prayers go out to Krystle, Lu and Martin and their families.  Taken away too soon by a senseless act of violence.  Please keep them in your prayers. Let’s Never Forget and Pray For Boston.

Happy Birthday To My Fur Babies

Allie birthdayToday was a double celebration. Allie my Westie turned 15. It is amazing and we are truly blessed to still have her with us.  See, Allie is blind, practically deaf and diabetic.  As long as she is getting her two shots of insulin a day she is great. I wish I could have let Allie eat her yummy treat for her birthday but she did get to eat a few small bites which for her was just a tease but if she had eaten it she would have been up quite a few times during the night to drink and want to go out.  With her being delicate these days I’ve also started grooming her myself but I can only do it a little at a time hence my shaggy looking girl.

pebbles

Today is also Pebbles birthday. Pebby would have been 12 today. I hope my Pebby had an amazing birthday at Rainbow Bridge with her brother, sister and many wonderful furry friends there. I know she would have loved her birthday cupcake that I made for her every year.  I love you and miss you so much Pebbles!

Happy birthday girls. I hope you both had a wonderful day. We love you both so much!

Easy Strawberry Banana Muffins (With Yogurt)

I am always looking for great recipes to try. With a picky toddler on hand finding ways to get her to eat more fruits and veggies can be tricky.  For example, Buggy loves her banana's but can be picky with certain strawberry items. I had some Stoneyfield Strawberry Banana yogurt that she wouldn't eat and I didn't want it to go to waste. My favorite is strawberry banana but I thought I would try and use them in a recipe if I could and try and expand her pallet just a bit. I found this super easy banana recipe and modified it just a tad. I used whole wheat flour and the muffins were so moist.

This recipe is super simple and a great way to get your little one to help. Perfect for Sunday morning family time.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour  (I used whole wheat)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup mashed ripe banana
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 toddler size container of Stoneyfield strawberry banana yogurt (you can use any kind you want or use applesauce)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Grease muffin cups or line with paper muffin liners.
  3. Mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat together banana, sugar, egg and vanilla. Stir in the yogurt
  5. Stir banana mixture into flour until just combined. Scoop batter into prepared muffin cups.
  6. Bake in preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into center of a muffin comes out clean. Let cool before serving.

Enjoy!
