Adventures In Potty Training: Peek-A-Boo Poo-Poo

We have been in full blown potty training for the last month and let me tell you, it’s a dirty job! Buggy is doing great with going pee in the potty and when we started she only had two accidents but I can’t say the same for poo’ing in the potty. She loves her potty and will go pee even when she’s wearing her diaper. She pulls it off and tells me she has to go potty and then we put on her big girl underwear. They say that going poo in the potty takes longer- yup, it certainly does. Let me tell ya, I think I would rather change dirty diapers.

Buggy went poo in the potty at school a few weeks ago and she was so excited when she did it. When I picked her up that day she couldn’t wait to tell me and we did our excited potty dance and I told her how proud I was of her.  She is still not going poo in the potty even when she is wearing her big girl underwear. She doesn’t wear a diaper unless we go out running errands or at night time. When we are at home it’s all big girl underwear but the other day after cleaning up five poopy big girl underwear I caved and put a diaper on her so that she can go. By then my hands felt like sand paper from washing them so much. Once she went I was good for a few days until her poo cycle started again.

It has always been difficult to change Buggy’s diaper when she went poo because the kid tightens her legs and I have to pry them open to clean her up and that just makes it worse for her because I have to really dig in to get everything and then she’s sore. It really breaks my heart but I think I finally came up with a way to get her to let me wipe her - because we all know how much they want to do it themselves. Introducing Peek-A-Boo Poo Poo. After she pee’s I try and have her bend over to see if there is any poo hiding in her bum. I tell her I think that poo poo is playing peek-a-boo and I have to do more wiping. I say poo poo where are you and totally make a game out of it. That relaxes her and gets her laughing and I’m able to really get in there and then I throw her in the tubby for a good soak. Her nightly bath has been helping quit a bit since she’s been so sore.

I can’t wait until she’s mastered the poo. I know it hurts her to go but tonight she did pretty good. I’ve got sticker charts every where and her reward was a cookie.

How did you all survive potty training?

Sweet Appreciation

When I came in to work yesterday one of the residents gave me a big hug and these chocolates with a wonderful card. Earlier this week she told me that she was having problems with her printer. I told her I would take a look and see what was going on.  Lucky for me it was an easy fix and she was extremely grateful especially since she is going to be doing some travelling in a few weeks and needed to do a lot of printing.

I certainly didn’t expect anything but it was such a wonderful thing for them to do. They are just some of the wonderful residents I see and get to help and hang out with when I go to work.

How have you felt appreciated lately?

Maxine & Buggy’s Weekend Adventures

imageEvery weekend the kids at school take home Maxine, the class monkey. The kids document their time with Maxine over the weekend so that the following week in school the class can read all about their adventures. Last weekend was Buggy’s turn and the “girls” had so much fun.

We went to the mall and even saw a friend from school, ran errands to a few different stores and went to an indoor play area and had some fun. Here are some pictures from the “girls” weekend. I think the girls were really exhausted from such a busy time. Buggy really loved having Maxine over, she was such a silly monkey.

Our Valentine’s Day Craft Cards

20130213_200004This will be Buggy’s first Valentine’s Day at preschool and I’m super excited for her. I could have just bought the cards and some candy but seeing as it’s really “our” first well I really wanted to make something.

This craft project was really easy. I picked up a foam kit at the craft store and bought some candy. Other than popping out the little holes in the hearts, it was a real simple project. Buggy had fun filling the bags with candy and I was really happy that she didn’t show any interest in eating the candy. She did pretend to eat one of the little hearts but started laughing and then threw it away.

20130213_195743I’m really happy with how the cards came out. Writing the names on the hearts with the glitter pen was really easy too.

Do you generally buy the cards or do you do crafts cards with the kids?

WW: Stop Praying For Snow

Considering the Blizzard we just had last weekend and more snow in the forecast, I thought this was awesome!

Can Dog’s Be Gay?

EltonI’m sure you heard about the idiot owners in TN who surrendered their gorgeous pitbull/American bulldog mix not because he was an aggressive dog but because he thought he was gay. These idiot owners surrendered their dog to a kill shelter. They actually brought the dog in to be euthanized because they really thought he was gay because he was humping or as they say “hunched another male dog”!  I can’t believe how ignorant these people are. They showed the couple on TV and someone really should have slapped some sense into them.

I don’t know if animals can really be gay or not but dogs mount other dogs- male or females to express dominance or play. My female boxer used to hump any new person or dog that came into the house or yard. She has a dominant personality. Not once did I ever think that my dog could be gay or heard anyone say anything like that but I’ve been working with rescue for over ten years and I’ve heard just about everything why people want to give up their dog.

Thank DOG one of the volunteers from the rescue organization adopted this gorgeous boy right before he was scheduled to be euthanized. She already had four dogs. She named him Elton – as in Elton John.

This was a happy ending but my heart goes out to the ones that don’t make it. I hope these idiots never get a chance to own any type of pets –ever again!

Family Fun Day; Disney On Ice

disney on iceOver the weekend we took Buggy to Disney On Ice. She’s not really familiar with a lot of the Disney movies like Ariel, Lion King and Peter Pan and Snow White but she still had a great time. Her favorites right now are Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Little Einstein’s, Doc McStuffins and Mickey Mouse.

Even though we were a good distance from the ice Buggy was still a bit leery when Mickey and the gang came out. She is still afraid of characters. We were going to take her to Disney this past December for her birthday but we noticed that during Halloween when some of the teachers dressed up, it really freaked her out so we totally cancelled that trip. We are going to take her in April but I think we’ll just be visiting the animals and keep our distance from the characters walking around.

We kept looking at Buggy to see if she was really enjoying herself instead of just saying yes and she really was. She was waving at them, clapping and had a big smile on her face. The show wasn’t very long – maybe an hour and a half I think.

I tried to take some pictures with my phone when they weren’t moving around too fast so they wouldn’t be so blurry. Some of them came out pretty good.

It was a great ending to the weekend. Have you been to Disney On Ice?

Her Name Is Amelia

AmeliaLast night I was on my way home with Buggy and made a pit stop to pick up our dinner. There were a few people in front of us so we had to wait a few minutes. This lady next to me was quite friendly and chatty. She kept trying to talk to Buggy telling her how cute she was but Buggy wouldn’t acknowledge her at all.

I told her the lady that Buggy is really shy at times and doesn’t talk to strangers. The chatty lady started talking about her kids when they were younger and how she scared the crap out of them with all the “don’t talk to stranger’s” deal and all. She continued to try and talk to Buggy but no luck. Finally she asked me what her name was. I kinda just stared at her and froze. Finally I said Amelia, her name is Amelia (not her real name ).

I don’t like strangers knowing her real name. I never use Buggy’s real name in public and always have a fake name when people ask me what her name is and since Buggy is shy with strangers she wouldn’t respond if you used her real name anyway. I usually have a quick response but this lady threw me off.

Some of you guys don’t use your kids name on your blog but what about when you’re out in public, do you use a nickname or use their real names?
