Our First Hospital Visit

Emery wheelchair.jpg.jpgSaturday night we spent the evening in the emergency room. On Saturday Buggy was at birthday party at one of those indoor play things. I had an appointment and wasn’t there so hubs took her.  Within a half hour something happened and Buggy was crying. She really wouldn’t tell daddy what happened  but she seemed fine and within a few minutes went back to playing with her friend.

The party was two hours long and when they got home Buggy wouldn’t come out of the car and wanted daddy to pick her up. After they were settled on the couch she showed daddy her left ankle and he noticed that it was red and a little blister. We noticed that she was really favoring it so off the the emergency room we went.

Buggy was actually a really good sport for the most part. She really loved the wheelchair ride and did super awesome when they took the xrays. Since this was our first visit to the ER I really wanted to take pics of her getting her x-rays but it was all too fast.  There were times when she kept saying she wanted to go home and was just done with everything but overall she was an amazing trooper. The x-rays came back fine and the nurse said it was just a light sprain so she drained the cyst and wrapped her ankle and told us to keep her off her foot for 24hours which is easier said than done. Buggy got a really big band aid where they drained the cyst which she was super happy about  because we are in a band aid stage right now – and Dora got a band aid too.  Two hours later we were ready to leave the hospital. One of the best parts for her was that she got to sleep with Mami that night. I thought I would have to cuddle with my baby all day Sunday but guess who scrambled off the bed first thing in the morning and said “look Mami, it not hurt.” Of course it only hurts when I want to check her bandage.

She is milking it at all the right times. I do notice that even now she does limp a bit but still says that it doesn’t hurt.

Seniors Love Their Porn

Working with Seniors at an Assisted Living can be quite interesting at times. My job is to try and get the residents connected with the computer any way I can. I try and get to know them and learn what they like to do.  Some Seniors are easier to engage and some want no part of it.

Earlier this week a resident I’ve been trying to get on the computer finally came looking for me.  While spending a few minutes with him I googled his name and the name of their furniture store they owned and that really peaked his interest but was it enough to keep him coming back for more??  Later on that day he wanted some help with his computer in his apartment. Somehow it had gone offline. While fixing it I see some porn images on there but I’m moving around quickly and trying to open up new tabs to make sure we are back online because he is standing right behind me. It was too funny.

Hermann, my little porn loving resident is there because his wife has Alzheimer’s. They are both in their early to mid eighty’s and obviously his mind is still going strong. Now I know why Hermy never wants to leave his apartment and is always telling his wife to go find something to do with some of the other resident’s.

Just another typical day at work-lol!

Boston Parking Spots Sell For $560,000

Would you seriously pay this much for parking spots? Parking spots! I mean seriously, that is just insane. I know that parking is extremely limited and in high demand but I just couldn't believe that there was actually a bidding war and it went that high. The Internal Revenue Service seized the spots from a man who owed more than $600,000 in back taxes.I have a list of what I can buy for that amount of money and a parking spot or two is certainly not on it.

This Tandem parking spot is just steps from high-end Newbury Street shops. The neighborhood is home to the most valuable parking spots in the city. The last space that was for sale in that area set the record for a single spot at $300,000 in 2009 and two tandem spots a block from the Public Garden on Commonwealth Avenue sold for $200,000 last summer.

The winner didn’t want to be identified on camera. He/she is probably thinking his friends will think he’s/she’s crazy but I’ll tell you what, with limited parking in the city, this person is going to make some serious money on those two spots for sure.

What do you think, Insanity or investment?

Are We Teaching Our Kids To Be Quitters"?

Buggy has been taking ballet and soccer for the last few months. A schoolmate of hers also takes ballet and the girls have occasional play dates. While the girls are in ballet the mom tells me that her son no longer wants to play soccer and with only about 3 games left they stopped bringing him.  I asked the mom if they asked him why he no longer wants to play but he didn’t give a specific reason. He’s only four so they didn’t think it was a big deal.

I know the child is only four but I’m wondering what is the lesson we are teaching our children, that it’s ok to quit just because something seems tougher than you thought, that playing soccer isn’t as fun because you really have to work at it.

After we left ballet I kept wondering what I would do if Buggy suddenly said she no longer wanted to do ballet. I think I would definitely try and find out why the sudden dislike and if she were having issues. It could be something as simple as my ballet shoes hurt and we know how three year olds can totally make a bigger issue out of something like that. But I would also like to think that if this was something she really wanted (and we have to pay for) I would really want her to follow through and finish what she started. Again, we are talking about a three year old and each situation is different but if not now, when do we teach our children you should “finish what you start”?

I would love to hear your thoughts on this subject.
